Teacher Residency for Rural Education (TRRE) team members started to review applications and interview potential Cohort 4 members in December. The application review process is complete and we’re thrilled to announce Cohort 4 has 16 residents! Meet one of our newest Cohort 4 residents.
Kristy Wells accepted last year and deferred to Cohort 4. Wells brings a wide variety of experiences to our newest cohort. Her experience includes work as a special education paraprofessional in Wichita Falls, Texas, as well as serving as a substitute teacher for three years. She has worked with students with autism spectrum disorders to collect data for behavior and IEP goals and assist teachers facilitation of inclusion across different settings.
She
is a veteran of the Air Force, and her husband recently retired after 21 years
of service. Wells was excited to learn about the TRRE program and relocate to
the northern area of New Hampshire where her husband was raised. In addition to joining
TRRE, she looks forward to returning to New Hampshire permanently and experiencing all
four seasons again.
Wells
selected the TRRE program to pursue her M.Ed. and Elementary K-6 certification
because of the residency model. Eager to get to know the community where she
will work and live, Kristy recognizes that the community plays an essential
role in student success which is one of the cornerstones of the TRRE program. Wells
hopes to learn from and collaborate with her teaching mentor during the
upcoming school year. She describes her ideal learning environment being one
that offers a mentor and feedback to refine her teaching skills. Her passion
for learning about child development and understanding the different ways
students communicate through behavior coincides with the TRRE focus on social
emotional learning in the curriculum.
The
TRRE Team eagerly anticipates welcoming Wells to New Hampshire this summer, and
we’re grateful to have her as a member of Cohort 4. The official welcome and program start date for Cohort 4 begins with orientation on May 20. TRRE faculty and staff look forward to supporting Cohort 4 residents through the process of becoming new teachers over the course of the 15-month program!
