Cohort 4 - missing Rachele Harvey - with Bryan Mascio, Marie Collins and Tom Schram.
Cohort four dedicated their final summer TRRE institute to completion of coursework in special education and professional development opportunities. One occasion for enrichment, Beginning a Marathon: The Power of Pacing, presented by Mike Anderson explored strategies for building classroom community over the first few weeks of school and establishing routines. Twelve of the thirteen members of cohort four, as well as several TRRE teaching mentors, were able to attend the workshop, which took place on Thursday, July 29th, at The Mountain Club on Loon. The day included time for sharing strategies, discussing ideas for setting up a classroom, thinking about relationship building with students, and time for planning as our recent graduates prepare to enter their first year as certified educators.
After a long and arduous year of virtual seminars and mostly virtual observations, the professional development event was the first opportunity for (almost) the entire cohort and supervisors to gather in person. It was truly a joyful experience to celebrate all the graduates' hard work and completion of the program in person. The meeting on July 29th also presented an opportunity for TRRE supervisors to discuss what types and topics of induction support graduates would most appreciate moving into the 2021-2022 school year.
In a discussion at the summer TRRE Advisory Board Meeting, Cohort 4 resident panelists said that the relationships within the TRRE program were the most valuable resource of the program. Residents valued the emotional support from faculty and feedback and input on teaching strategies and coursework from cohort members during the 18-months of the residency program.
Based on feedback from Cohort four residents and graduates, TRRE invested time and energy this summer developing new opportunities for personal networking and curriculum development support for graduates. As part of the TRRE focus on induction activities for the upcoming year, the initiatives planned will allow us to continue the valuable relationships developed during the residency program and ensure our graduates’ growth as teachers. In addition, Tom Schram and Marie Collins, TRRE Faculty in Residence, will continue as induction mentors for Cohort 4 this year.
TRRE faculty and staff are incredibly proud of the achievements and hard work of Heather, Laci, Rachele, Meme, Maryanne, Mike, Cam, Kristy, Abbey, Kris, Anabelle, Matt, and Justin, and wish them all success as they launch the first year of their teaching career. All 13 residents were hired in TRRE partner schools. With the blink of an eye, the fourth and final TRRE cohort graduated, and are entering their first year as classroom teachers!
